How to solve “WinRing0_1_2_0 already exists” error

Aug. 29, 2024, 11:21 a.m.

The "WinRing0_1_2_0 already exists" error typically occurs when the MSR cache is full or occupied by another background process or service.

This error may be caused by system resource monitoring programs like AIDA, HWiNFO, All CPU Meter, PCMeter, or Acronis, as well as backlight control services running in the background. To resolve it, close these programs and stop their associated processes and services.

Here are a few ways to resolve the "WinRing0_1_2_0 already exists" error.

Method 1 — Close third-party applications

  1. Close any of the above programs if they are running.
  2. Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del and selecting "Task Manager."
  3. Locate and end any processes that might be interfering with the miner.
  4. Go to the "Startup" tab, filter applications by status, find any applications that might be causing the issue, and click "Disable."

  5. Restart your PC.

Method 2 — Disable unnecessary services

If the first method didn’t work, a third-party service might still be running in the background. You will need to disable it:

  1. Right-click the "Start" menu and select "Search."
  2. Type msconfig into the search bar.
  3. When the System Configuration (or msconfig) program appears at the top, right-click it, select "Run as administrator," and grant permission if prompted. The System Configuration window will open.
  4. Select "Selective startup" and uncheck "Load startup items."
  5. Go to the "Services" tab, check the box for "Hide Microsoft services," then click "Disable all," followed by "Apply" and "OK." Finally, reboot your computer.

This will disable all non-essential background processes, services, and applications, ensuring the miner and your OS run smoothly.

Method 3 — Clean up the registry

Use this method only if the previous two didn't work!

If the second method also didn’t resolve the issue, it’s time to clean the Windows registry.

  1. Right-click the "Start" menu and click "Search."
  2. Type regedit or "Registry Editor" into the search bar.
  3. When "Registry Editor" appears at the top, right-click it and select "Run as administrator." Allow the program to make changes to your computer if prompted.
  4. In the Registry Editor window, navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

  5. Locate the WinRing0_1_2_0 folder, right-click it, and delete the folder.

  6. Restart your computer.

This process will remove any unnecessary entries and help ensure a clean boot without third-party processes.

Additional information

If the previous tips didn’t fully resolve your issue, here are a few more suggestions:

  • For Windows 11 users — disable Core Isolation.
  • Turn off virtualization, which is a technology that allows multiple operating systems to run simultaneously. This can be done in your motherboard’s BIOS. Depending on the manufacturer, it might be labeled as VTx, Intel Virtualization Technology, Intel VTT, Hyper-V, or AMT VTT.
  • If you’re running the XMRig miner directly through a batch file and not the Kryptex application, make sure to grant permanent administrator rights to the xmrig.exe file. The batch file itself should be run without administrator rights. How to solve "FAILED TO APPLY MSR MOD HASHRATE WILL BE LOW" Error.
